OK Daly, I'm calling you out.
It said in some newspaper somewhere, and I quote: "One of these days I'm going to take bolt cutters (to the gate) and open the damn thing. I should have done it a long time ago."
The "damn thing" in question is Boeddeker Park in the Tenderloin. This park is open to the public 6 hours a week. That is an insult to every citizen of this town, especially natives who grew up with a plethora of free recreational and cultural activities. Now you have to rich enough to own a dog the size of a pony in order to use the "public" parks. You have to have a six figure income in order to go to the aquarium. They are trying to social engineer the people of the Tenderloin right out of the equation by restricting access to a "public" facility. And by "they," I mean whoever is responsible making such a ridiculous decision, and those who allow the situation to continue through indifference. The TL is tough enough without closing the one patch of green in an otherwise barren landscape.
The park could be reserved for children on certain days and/or times The park is directly across the street from the Tenderloin Police Dept. I think our Men In Blue could keep a lid on the occasional "situation" that may arise.
So what about it Chris? Will this be an an example of a politician keeping his word?
